Annotations on the Hub

Annotations can be viewed and edited in the hub in a similar manner to the app. You can clean up the annotations that you did in the field on the app, while on the hub back in the office.

Viewing annotations

If the inspection is not editable (e.g. it is active and on a device, or you have not clicked the 'Edit' button on the inspection) then you can open the image to view the details of the annotation.

Press ‘View’ to bring up the annotations editor.

Editing or moving won't be possible.  Click on an annotation to select it and see its details.

Adding or Editing Annotations

If you are working from the hub and want to add annotations to an image, or if you want to edit existing annotations on an inspection first you must click the EDIT button at the top of the inspection. That will make the annotations editable.:

Get started by pressing the ‘Edit’ button.

NOTE: If you are wanting to edit annotations in an existing inspection, you need to make sure the inspection is editable first.

Adding a new annotation

Open the add annotation dropdown and select the required type of annotation.  A new annotation will be placed on the background and selected, ready for you to edit and move it to suit.

If you have selected a balloon type you will be prompted to set its initial text value before it is set onto the background.

NOTE: If you have another annotation selected when you add a new annotation then the colours and styles  will be copied from it, otherwise default values will be applied.

NOTE: It's not possible to add freestyle from the hub.  For that you'll need the app. Use the lines instead.

Selecting annotations

Annotations are selected based on where you click.  If there are multiple annotations at the point you click on then the top-most annotation gets selected.  You can click on any part of an annotation to select it.

Annotations do not come to the front when selecting them.  If you select an annotation that is partly behind something else it will stay behind it.

Only one annotation can be selected at a time.  All other annotations will be unselected.

To select no shapes, just click somewhere on the background image where there are no annotations.

Shapes

Depending on where you click, one or both of the shapes' drag points will become visible as green highlights.

Balloons

You cannot select all of a balloon - only one end or the other.  The selected end will get a green border once selected.

Move

To move a shape, make sure that all drag points are shown.  Each shape has two drag points on opposing sides of the shape so if both are showing you will be able to move it.

NOTE: For a rectangle, the drag points for moving are selected by clicking on the left hand vertical side.

NOTE: A shape cannot be moved off the background image, but it can be dragged out of view if you have zoomed in.  Use the scroll bars to find it again.

Resize

To resize a shape make sure only one drag point is showing.  To select a drag point and unselect all others you need to click directly on it.  Click on the shape first to see where they are, then click on the one you want.

NOTE: Freestyle cannot be resized.  Clicking on a drag point will not unselect the other one.

Remove

Select the shape you want to remove.  A red delete button will be visible in the panel on the right.  Click it to remove the shape, but take note that you will not be able to restore a removed freestyle shape.

Editing balloons

Move

A balloon cannot be selected in its entirety.  To move a balloon you will need to move each end of it independently.  Follow the guidelines on moving shapes above.

Text

With the balloon selected, alter the value of the text.

In the same manner as linked balloons in the app, the value shown in the balloon gets recalculated using the value you entered and if linked to a sub-form, any relevant details from that linked form.

Remove

Select the balloon you want to remove.  A red delete button will be visible in the panel on the right. Click it to remove the balloon.  This also removes any links that the balloon might have had to an adjacent feature.

Saving your changes

Once you have finished editing annotations, click the Save button in the top right of the editor.  The editor will close and a new annotation overlay will be generated and be applied on top of the field (this may take a second or two).

These changes have been written onto the inspection.  However if you want to save them permanently you'll need to then save the inspection as well.

NOTE: The 'Zoom' on the Edit Annotations screen is only for giving you a more detailed view. It does not affect the cropping of the image - which the '+' and '-' image zoom buttons on the Main inspection form do.

Cropping the image

If you would like to crop your image then just zoom in and use the scroll bars to get the view of the image you would like.  Press ‘Crop to current view’.  You can press ‘Remove crop’ to go back to the full image.

Cancel the edit

Should you not wish to save your annotation changes, close the editor by selecting the Cancel button in the top right, and then confirming that you wish to abandon these changes.

The value of link fields will be reverted to match the value of the balloon before it was edited.

Balloon links

For linked balloons there is a relationship with a matching sub form.

If you update the balloon text value, this change can be seen in the linked sub form and any linked field (e.g. sample number or penetration reference) so that it is updated to reflect the new value.  These updates will be reversed if you cancel editing of annotations on the field, with the text value of the balloon after cancelling set into the linked forms' link field.

Conversely updating the dependent fields on the form (with the annotation editor closed) will have the effect of updating the balloon.  This also updates the annotations for you to save the inspection and commit these changes permanently.

Replacing the background image

When you replace the background image you can either KEEP the annotations, or DISCARD them.

KEEP -  If you choose to keep them they will be 'jiggled' to suit the dimensions of the new image, so you may want to then open the editor and tidy them up further.

To replace the background image but keep the annotations:

Close the annotation editor

Choose a new image in the normal way - using the ‘Load Image File’ or ‘Choose Drawing Sets’ buttons

As you select an image you will get a pop up on screen asking if you want to keep the annotation.

Select “Yes please”

The background image will be updated to your new choice and the annotations will remain the same.

Adding a Smart Pin

Some inspections require a location to be marked using a Smart Pin.  This can be done either in the app or on the hub.

A Smart Pin is automatically linked to your penetration reference / item id.

On the hub a reminder will pop up when a floor plan gets loaded.

  1. Click Edit

  2. Zoom in to the correct location

  3. Press ‘Drop Smart Pin’
